Die 14. Ausgabe der PERFORMANCE REIHE NEU-OERLIKON mit dem Titel “Coexisting: beyond frames and borders -Switzerland / North-Macedonia” findet am 14. und 16. September 2023. Das Festival besteht aus Live-Performances von vier Künstlerinnen aus Nordmazedonien und sieben Schweizer Künstler*innen, mitkuratiert von Maricruz Peñaloza (Zürich/CH) und Biljana Tanurovska-Kjulavkovski, Gastkuratorin aus Skopje/NMK, und unter der Mitorganisation von Gisela Hochuli und Assistenz von Kerstin Wittenberg.

la_cápsula ist ein unabhängiges und experimentelles kuratorisches Projekt, das einen Dialog zwischen der künstlerischen und kulturellen Produktion Lateinamerikas und schweizerischen/einheimischen Künstler*innen anstrebt, und in dem Performances, Artists Talks, Ausstellungen und Debatten u.a. stattfinden.

Lumpen Station ist ein Webradio, das die Möglichkeiten der Radiokunst erforscht. Für diese Ausgabe werden Andrea Marioni und Mathilde Beetschen, Co-Leiter*innen, ihre Interviews und Recherchen vorstellen, die sie diesen Sommer in den Balkanländern durchgeführt haben. Dazu werden wir auch Gespräche mit den zum diesjährigen Festival eingeladenen Künstler*innen führen.

Letztes Jahr luden Verica Kovacevska, eine in der Schweiz lebende Künstlerin aus Nordmazedonien, und ich (Maricruz Peñaloza), zwei junge bildende Künstlerinnen aus Nordmazedonien, sowie einen Kurator aus Schottland, der die Kunstszene auf dem Balkan erforscht, zur Ausstellung BANG BANG – translocal hi:stories of performance art – Social Eleganz Chapter ins Museum Tinguely in Basel/CH ein.

Aus diesem Grund hat PERFORMANCE REIHE NEU-OERLIKON beschlossen, das Programm fortzusetzen und zu erweitern, indem der Schwerpunkt der diesjährigen Festivalausgabe auf der, in der Schweiz bisher wenig bekannten, Kunstszene in Nordmazedonien liegt.

Der Titel dieser Ausgabe des Festivals, Coexisting: beyond frames and borders – Switzerland /North Macedonia, beleuchtet nicht nur das Überschreiten von physischen Grenzen oder das Überschreiten von Rahmen, sondern lädt uns ein, die Grenzen und Rahmen, durch die wir kommunizieren, zusammenarbeiten und forschen, neu zu denken und zu dekonstruieren. Darüber hinaus lädt sie uns ein, Folgendes zu untersuchen:

Wie kommen wir zusammen? Wie können wir uns in Zeiten wie diesen, inmitten von Kriegen, Massenmigrationen und Ungleichheiten, gegenseitig verstehen? Was verbindet uns und was sollte uns verbinden? Wie können wir uns über unsere Unterschiede hinweg zueinander verhalten, die uns auch verbinden können, indem wir öffentliche Räume des Miteinanders schaffen?

Das Festival öffnet einen Raum und ermöglicht die Gestaltung eines Miteinanders, um einen Raum der Koexistenz zwischen Bürger*innenn, Künstler*innen und der Umwelt zu schaffen. Dies geschieht durch Kunstwerke, Präsentationen und Diskussionsrunden, die sich mit diesen Beziehungen befassen und den Zusammenhang untersuchen, in dem sie produziert werden und existieren, und zwar im Hinblick auf ihre soziopolitischen, wirtschaftlichen und kulturellen Aspekte.

Das Festival besteht aus Live-Performances von vier Künstlerinnen aus Nordmazedonien und sieben Schweizer Künstler*innen. Das Programm umfasst Diskussionen, Künstlerinnengespräche und Präsentationen unabhängiger Projekte, welche die Beziehungen zwischen öffentlichem Raum, Geschichte und Gegenwart, Demokratie, Gender, die Stellung von Künstler*innen in der Gesellschaft und ihre prekäre Situation sowie die Beziehung zwischen Kunst und Umwelt hinterfragen und reflektieren.

Anhand mehrerer Leseebenen, die die Idee der performativen Ansatz im öffentlichen Raum beinhalten, lädt “Coexisting: beyond frames and borders – Switzerland / North Macedonia” dazu ein, über die Komplexität der Beziehungen zwischen den verschiedenen Ansätzen und den zu behandelnden Themen nachzudenken. Dies geschieht mit dem Ziel, die Sichtbarkeit der zeitgenössischen Kunst zu erhöhen und Diskussionen zwischen Künstleri*innen aus beiden Ländern zu ermöglichen sowie die Diskussion in der breiten Öffentlichkeit zu erweitern.

Die PERFORMANCE REIHE NEU-OERLIKON hat sich in Neu-Oerlikon bereits als Veranstaltungsort für Performance Kunst etabliert und sowohl der Oerliker Park als auch der Wahlenpark werden seit fast 14 Jahren als Begegnungs- und Diskussionsraum sowie als Künstlerplattform genutzt, wobei auch die kulturpolitische Frage nach temporären künstlerischen, politischen und gesellschaftlichen Ansätzen und Interventionen gestellt wird.

Die 14. PERFORMANCE REIHE NEU OERLIKON 2023 richtet sich an ein kunst- und kulturinteressiertes Publikum, aber auch an die Einwohnerinnen von Neu- und (Alt-)Oerlikon sowie an Gäste und Besucher*innen aus anderen Teilen der Stadt und des Landes.

Die 14. PERFORMANCE REIHE NEU-OERLIKON 2023 findet bei jedem Wetter statt und der Eintritt ist frei.

„Coexisting: beyond frames and borders – Switzerland / North Macedonia”

The 14th edition of the PERFORMANCE REIHE NEU-OERLIKON entitled „Coexisting: beyond frames and borders -Switzerland / North Macedonia“ will take place on 14 and 16 September 2023. The festival consists of live performances by four artists from Northern Macedonia and seven Swiss artists, co-curated by Maricruz Peñaloza (Zurich/CH) and Biljana Tanurovska-Kjulavkovski, guest curator from Skopje/NMK, and co-organised by Gisela Hochuli and assisted by Kerstin Wittenberg.

la_cápsula is an independent and experimental curatorial project that aims to establish a dialogue between the artistic and cultural production of Latin America and Swiss/domestic artists, and which hosts performances, artists talks, exhibitions and debates, among other things.

Lumpen Station is a web radio that explores the possibilities of radio art. For this issue, Andrea Marioni and Mathilde Beetschen both co-directors, will present their interviews and research conducted this summer in the Balkans. We will also have conversations with the artists invited to this year’s festival.

Last year, Verica Kovacevska, a Northern Macedonian artist, based in Switzerland and Maricruz Peñaloza invited two young visual artists from North Macedonia, as well as a curator from Scotland, who carried out specialist research into the art scene in the Balkans, to attend the exhibition, BANG BANG – translocal hi:stories of performance art – Social Eleganz Chapter at the Museum Tinguely, in Basel/CH.

PERFORMANCE REIHE NEU-OERLIKON has, therefore, decided to continue and expand the programme by focusing this year’s edition on North Macedonia’s performing arts scene, which until now has been virtually unknown in Switzerland.

The title of this edition of the festival, „Coexisting: beyond frames and borders – Switzerland/North Macedonia“, not only highlights the crossing of physical borders or crossing frames, but invites us to re-imagine and deconstruct the borders and frames through which we communicate, collaborate and research. Moreover, it invites us to explore the following: How do we come together? How can we understand one other in times like this, amid wars, mass migrations and disparities? What connects us and what should connect us? How can we relate to one another through our differences, which can also bind us by creating public spaces of togetherness?

The festival opens a space and allows togetherness to evolve, in order to build space for co-existence between citizens, artists and the environment, through artworks, presentations and discussions addressing these relationships, problematizing and examining the context in which they are produced and exist, in terms of their socio-political, economic and cultural aspects.

Furthermore, the programme explores issues related to topics such as the public space, its appearance, existence and disappearance, viewing it as a place of ‘public freedom’ in Hanna Arendt’s words and a place of conviviality, in which our words and voices appear, many of which are misplaced, omitted or absent.

The festival consists of live performances by four women artists from North Macedonia and seven Swiss artists and the programme includes discussions, artist talks and presentations of independent projects, which further question and reflect on the relationships between the public space and history and the present, as well as democracy, gender, the position of artists in society and their precarious situation, and the relationship between art and the environment. The programme is geared towards creating dissonance, by raising political and social questions, providing a voice and creating opportunities to talk to one other and get to know one other better, in other words, interacting thus coexisting.

Through several layers of reading that encompass the idea of performing in the public space, Coexisting: beyond frames and borders – Switzerland/North Macedonia invites us to reflect on the complexity of the relationships between the different approaches and issues to be addressed. This is done in order to gain visibility from the perspective of contemporary art and to enable discussions between artists from both countries, as well as broadening the discussion among the general public.

The PERFORMANCE REIHE NEU-OERLIKON has already established itself i in Neu-Oerlikon as a venue for performance art and both the Oerliker Park and Wahlenpark have been used for almost 14 years as a meeting point and discussion space, as well as an artists‘ platform. This also raises the cultural-political question of temporary artistic, political and social approaches, as well as interventions.

The 14th PERFORMANCE REIHE NEU OERLIKON 2023 is aimed at an audience interested in art and culture, but also at residents of Neu- and (Alt) Oerlikon as well as guests and visitors from other parts of the city and the country.

The PERFORMANCE REIHE NEU-OERLIKON takes place in all weather conditions and there is no entrance fee.
